2014 CitiPower Port Phillip Business Excellence Award Categories

Any business located in the City of Port Phillip was able to take part in the 2014 CitiPower Port Phillip Business Excellence Awards.

A maximum of two General Award categories could be entered however a separate entry form for each category was required.

2014 General Award Categories

Tourism

Category open to businesses that:
  • consistently exceed visitor expectations by providing quality services and experiences
  • host visitors at an attraction or activity to a high standard
  • enhance the overall visitor experience
  • promote the City of Port Phillip as an integral inner Melbourne destination

Hospitality

Category open to businesses that:

  • consistently accommodate visitors in resorts. hotels, restaurants, pubs and bars, and provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction
  • promote the City of Port Phillip as an integral inner Melbourne destination
  • enhance the hospitality experience for the local community and visitors
  • enhance the vibrancy of an Activity Centre or Shopping Strip

Environmental Leadership

Category open to businesses that:
  • engage in government climate change programs such as the CitySwitch program or the Green Business Pilot program
  • demonstrate outstanding leadership by improving efficiency and striving to implement measures to reduce the impact of their business on the environment
  • have implemented ecologically sound measures to reduce their impact on the environment

Partnership & Corporate Social Responsibility - Corporate

Category open to businesses that:
  • have developed strong partnerships between industry and community organisations
  • have identified and/or provided job and training opportunities for the socially disadvantaged
  • invest in and support local charities and community based not-for-profit organisations 

Partnership & Corporate Social Responsibility - NFP

Category open to not for profit organisations that:

  • have developed strong partnerships with industry
  • have identified and/or provided job and training opportunities for the socially disadvantaged
  • provide services to enhance the wellbeing of the local community

Micro - employing up to 5 people

Category open to businesses that:
  • operate in any industry - sole trader, home-based, public or private,
  • demonstrate leadership, business success and sustainability and have a positive impact on the community

Small Business - employing between 6 & 20 people

Category open to businesses that:
  • operate in any industry - public, private or home-based
  • demonstrate leadership, business success and sustainability and have a positive impact on the community

Medium & Large Business - employing more than 20 people

Category open to businesses that:

  • operate in any industry – public or private
  • can substantiate an established history of growth and diversity of products and/or services
  • provide and encourage employment opportunities for local residents
  • enhance the local community and support local activities
  • demonstrate leadership, business success and sustainability and have a positive impact on the community 

Franchise Businesses

Category open to businesses that:
  • have entered into a continuing contractual relationship as a franchisee operating under the franchisor's trade name and within the franchisor guidelines
  • can substantiate an established history of growth and diversity of product and/or services
  • provide and encourage employment opportunities for local residents
  • enhance the local community and support local activities
  • demonstrate leadership, business success and sustainability and have a positive impact on the community
  • exemplifies the franchisee/franchisor partnership

Creative & Cultural Industries

Category open to businesses that:
  • operate within creative industries such as music, sound recording, writing, publishing and print media, advertising and marketing, film, television and radio, architectural services, design and visual arts, software development, videography and photography
  • enhance the reputation of the City of Port Phillip as a supporter of creative products or services locally, nationally and/or internationally

Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Category open to businesses that:
  • have created, nurtured and developed new, differentiated products or services
  • have contributed to the invention, design, production, performance, marketing and distribution of their product or service
  • have a willingness to develop, organise and manage a business venture along with any of its risks in order to make a profit

2014 Special Awards

Business of the Year

Chosen by the panel of judges from all the 2014 Award category winners, and awarded to the business that best demonstrates outstanding leadership and has contributed the greatest value to the Port Phillip community. All Award category winners (excluding People’s Choice – Service Excellence, Hall of Fame and Business Excellence Leader Awards) are eligible for the Business of the Year Award. No additional entry material is required.

Hall of Fame

This Award recognises individuals that have played a significant role in the success of a Port Phillip business, and within the business community and local economy. This Award also recognises those who have shown outstanding performance in their chosen field, demonstrated high ethical standards and serve as a role model for others in the business community. The recipient will be determined by the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Port Phillip based on recommendations by the Business Excellence Awards Working Group and the Awards Judging Panel.

Business Excellence Leaders

Businesses that have won multiple Awards will automatically be inducted into this category, at the discretion of the Judging Panel, and will not be eligible to enter the Business Excellence Awards for a further three years.
